Ancient Egypt in the Classical Age (in Bulgarian)
Short presentation of the programme:
The programme focuses on the religion and culture of ancient Egypt and Egyptian languages, prepares for independent reading and translation of ancient Egyptian texts, writing scientific texts and working on scientific expeditions in Egypt. The course of study comprises courses in Myth and Ritual, Kingship, Temples, Scriptures, Sun Worship, Warfare, Medicine, Ancient Egyptian Architecture, Comparative Egyptian Grammar, Translation and Commentary on Ancient Egyptian Works. The training courses include internships, field studies, seminars and course projects. The programme offers a preparatory module for holders of degrees in other professional areas.

The programme provides practice in Egypt during an annual travelling seminar.

Graduate Student Competencies:
Graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills in:
• history and culture of Ancient Egypt and the surrounding world;
• phases of the Egyptian language (Ancient Egyptian, Classical, Modern Egyptian, Coptic), as well as the main works of ancient Egyptian literature;
• independent translation, grammatical commentary and interpretation of ancient Egyptian texts;
• the field of religion, mythology and beliefs of the ancient Egyptians during different periods;
• architecture, medicine, astronomy and art of Ancient Egypt;
• independent writing of scientific publications.
Graduation:
Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits.
The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.
Occupation and possible positions:
Graduates pursue careers in the field of ancient languages and history as Egyptologists, curators and fund custodians.
