Short presentation of the programme:

The instruction in the programme comprises courses on Society and Art in the Middle Ages, Expertise in Ancient, Thracian and Medieval Monuments, Urban Space and Cultural Memory, Modernism and Postmodernism in Art, Temple Space and Monumental Painting, Iconography, the European Avant-Gardes in Art, Totalitarian Art, Cultural Memory and Urban Environment. The training courses include practices, projects, an internship in a museum, gallery or media.

Practical training courses:

The programme provides placements and internships in the following institutions with which contracts have been concluded: National Art Gallery, Square 500 - National Gallery, Sofia City Art Gallery, Regional History Museum (Rome) Vratsa and Vratsa Municipality, Archaeological Museum - Sozopol, Archaeological Museum - Nessebar and the municipality of Nessebar, the district of Shumen and the municipality of Shumen, art gallery - Smolyan and the municipality of Smolyan, the district of Kazanlak, the district of Sliven, the district of Haskovo and the municipality of Haskovo, the art gallery - Sliven.

International mobility:

Erasmus+ contracts with universities in Germany, Italy, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland.

Graduate Student Competencies:

Graduates will have mastered knowledge on:

• history of culture and art: ancient, medieval, new and contemporary;

• cultural transfer of works of art;

• relations with the press, radio and television, etc.;

• curation of exhibitions in the country and abroad;

• work on projects for funds and foundations;

• teaching activity of history of art in secondary schools;

• curation, organisation of museum funds and expositions;

• study and preservation of the Bulgarian cultural heritage.

Graduation:

Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits.

The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.

Occupation and possible positions:

Graduates pursue careers as:

• curators in art galleries and museums;

• expert in art galleries, museums and antiques;

• curators of exhibitions in the country and abroad;

• editors in cultural editorial offices and publishing houses, in the press and electronic media;

• specialists in cultural centres, community centres, non-profit associations, other management structures in the field of culture;

• experts engaged in the study and preservation of the Bulgarian cultural heritage.
