FORCED MIGRATION: EUROPE IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT
Short presentation of the programme:
The Master's program "Forced Migration: Europe in a Global Context" is a newly developed initiative by the Alliance of European Reform Universities and the Department of Philosophy and Sociology. It aims to provide training in the complex field of forced migration for a wide range of students. By adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the program combines high academic standards with practical training in cooperation with potential employers. Its objectives are strategically aligned with the needs of both sending and receiving societies, emphasizing human dignity, rights, and shared values. Ultimately, the program aspires to create a sustainable platform for shaping future policies, research, and practices, contributing to a more inclusive approach to addressing the challenges of forced migration in Europe and globally.
The program includes theoretical courses in sociology, political science, psychology, pedagogy, etc., as well as practical training and internships that place students in real-life situations.

Graduate Student Competencies:
Upon graduation, students will have systematic and up-to-date knowledge of:
• The main theoretical concepts and methodological approaches in the field of migration studies, with a particular focus on forced migration;
• The legal and political framework governing migration, and in particular forced migration, at the national, European, and international levels;
• The social, cultural, economic, and psychological dimensions of migration, especially with regard to vulnerable groups, and in particular unaccompanied children;
• Assessment of the role of civil society, non-governemental organisations and grasroots, and humanitarian organizations in migration management;
• The role of the media in shaping perceptions, discourses, and narratives on migration.
Graduation:
Completion of the master's program is achieved by defending a master's thesis after completing the required number of credits.
The manner and conditions of completion are in accordance with the "Standard for Completion of Educational and Qualification Degrees "Bachelor" or "Master" at NBU.
Occupation and possible positions:
- academic institutions and research units such as migration researchers, university lecturers;
- experts in national and international organizations working in the field of migration, developing migration management policies at local, national, European, and international levels;
- experts in advocacy and communication in various civil society structures working in the field of migration;
