Music Performance (in English)
Short presentation of the programme:
The programme is practice-oriented and gives the opportunity of an exchange with European educational institutions. It offers specialised musical training in the fields of classical singing, classical instrument, pop and jazz singing and pop and jazz instrument, instrument pedagogy or singing training, modern Bulgarian music, acting, improvisation, playing music in various musical ensembles: duo, trio, quartet, quintet, combo ensemble and chamber orchestra. The courses are taught in English. The programme is unique for its modern instruction, flexibility and individual teaching approach. In 2014, it was accredited for a six-year period.
Upon completing the first semester of study, particularly outstanding students and students following an individual programme of study drawn by the consultants can enrol in individual courses after an audition. The auditions are held prior to the start of each semester, between June 20 - 30 for the autumn semester and January 20 - 31 for the spring semester. A jury of prominent experts in the field decides on the successful applicants who are approved by the NBU management.
To be eligible, the students must have passed the exams from the previous semester or year, have an average mark of at least 4.50 and have participated in solo concerts on behalf of NBU, in representative events on and off campus, in strategic projects, master classes or seminars at NBU.

Practical training courses:
There are placement and internship contracts concluded with institutions in Bulgaria. Each semester students have the opportunity to participate in national and international projects, improving the knowledge and skills mastered during the course of study at NBU.
International mobility:
The programme provides an opportunity for international student mobility at universities in Austria, Great Britain, Greece, Spain, Italy, Poland, Finland, France, Croatia, Switzerland, Turkey, etc.
Graduate Student Competencies:
The programme is practically oriented. Graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills in:
• the field of composition and conducting, musical culture, musical theory and history;
• the instrumental and vocal performing and interpretive musical art in the classical, pop and jazz genres as conductors or composers;
• teaching in specialised educational institutions (music schools, colleges, folk arts, choreographic schools, etc.).
Graduation:
Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits.
The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.
