Classical Music (in Bulgarian)

Short presentation of the programme:

The programme is practice-oriented and develops students' knowledge and skills in the field of classical music interpretation. It has a duration of three semesters and provides instruction in the specialties of classical instrument and classical singing, incl. the study of chamber music, methodology of teaching an instrument or singing, modern Bulgarian music, acting, improvisation, playing music in various musical ensembles: duo, trio, quartet, quintet, chamber orchestra. The programme is known for its innovative forms of modern education, flexibility and individualised teaching approach, as well as providing performance opportunities to students and their realisation as professionals in the field of classical music upon graduation.

Practical training courses:

There are placement and internship contracts concluded with institutions in Bulgaria. Each semester students have the opportunity to participate in national and international projects, improving the knowledge and skills mastered during the course of study at NBU.

Graduate Student Competencies:

The programme is practically oriented. Graduate will have mastered knowledge and skills in:

• the field of musical theory and practice, musicology and musical culture;

• the instrumental and vocal performing and interpreting art in the field of classical music;

• teaching in specialised educational institutions (music schools, colleges, etc.);

• highly qualified specialists in the field of musical performance and specialised musical pedagogy;

• the management of diverse executive teams.

Graduation:

Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits. The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.

Occupation and possible positions:

Graduates pursue careers as instrumentalist or solo singer, orchestrators, concertmasters, accompanists, opera singers, choristers, teachers of (a relevant) instrument, singing teachers in specialised music schools, universities and colleges.
