Technologies in Translation and Interpreting (in English)

Short presentation of the programme:

The programme is a joint Erasmus Mundus Master's Degree developed under the Erasmus+ Project, a key activity of KA1, in consortium with the universities of Wolverhampton, UK and Málaga, Spain. It aims to prepare a new generation of translators capable of effectively dealing with the high demands of the profession: technically literate specialists familiar with the latest developments in language technology, translation problems, translation and interpretation technologies and electronic language resources to help the translator. The programme offers theoretical courses in Structural, Corpus and Computational Linguistics and Translation problems, however, its focus is predominantly practical.

Major and professional qualification:

Major: Philologist
Qualification: Translator, specialist in the field of translation and interpretation technologies

Practical training courses:

In the course of study, students gain practical experience of working in a simulated professional environment by participating in activities and projects of the Language Technology Laboratory, creating their own terminological databases and multilingual corpora of aligned documents, and using translation software. At the end of their studies, students complete an internship in a professional environment at prestigious translation agencies and software companies.

Graduate Student Competencies:

Graduates master basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills and can work as translators, interpreters and translator-editors in agencies, in state administration and business. The students' practical training in laboratory settings and in agencies is solid enough to participate in network projects or administer translation processes and assess their quality.

Graduation:

Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits.

The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.
