Social Entrepreneurship (in Bulgarian)

Short presentation of the programme:

The programme responds to the pressing and significant problems of the modern Bulgarian society and the globalising world in general. It is aligned with the trend of the increasing complexity of social relations and, therefore, is multidimensional as far as the disciplines are concerned. It is a two-semester programme. The instruction comprises lecture courses such as New Forms of Solidarity, Civil Society, Non-Governmental Organisations, European Programmes, Social Economy, Social Capital, Status and Functions of Social Entrepreneurship, Social Innovation, etc. The palette of lecture courses also includes also Social Entrepreneurship, Social Exclusion and Poverty, The Culture of Entrepreneurship, Sociology of Prostitution and Drug Addiction, Social Realisation of the Bulgarian Roma, Public Policies and Evaluative Studies, etc. The training courses are relevant to the field of social entrepreneurship and include internships, practices, projects and seminars.

Practical training courses:

The nature of the scientific field implies close, regular contacts and sustainable cooperation with social enterprises in Bulgaria, leading non-governmental organisations, corporations and government bodies. Thanks to the cooperation of the department with these organisations, optimal conditions have been created for providing students with internships and placements. Internationally, connections have also been established and maintained with EU academic social entrepreneurship programmes and various institutions promoting and supporting social entrepreneurship.

International mobility:

The programme provides an opportunity for international student mobility at universities in France, Germany and Turkey.

Graduate Student Competencies:

Graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills in: a) creating and managing a social enterprise, non-profit organisation (non-governmental organisation); b) participating as experts in existing social enterprises and/or non-governmental organisations in Bulgaria and the European Union; c) specialised consulting activity to the parliament, members of the Bulgarian and European parliaments, governmental bodies directly involved in social policies, municipalities, regional governments, etc.; d) participating and managing projects on social problems, environmental problems, etc.; e) expert and advisory activity to local, regional, national and European programmes on issues of unemployment, poverty, disadvantaged people, people with disabilities, illiteracy, resocialisation of ex-prisoners, drug addicts, children without parents, people of the third age , integration of Roma, risk groups, etc. Graduates will also have built competencies in a number of relevant application areas: project preparation and presentation, accounting, public and media relations, etc.

Graduation:

Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits.

The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.

Occupation and possible positions:

Graduates pursue careers as:

• social entrepreneurs;

• experts in the field of employment of vulnerable social groups;

• consultants on social projects and projects for the development of human resources to state institutions and business organisations.
