International Alternative Tourism (in Bulgarian) Distance Learning
Short presentation of the programme:
The instruction in the programme comprises courses on International Alternative Tourism Organisation and Management, Tour Operators, Agency and Transport Activity, Tour Guiding and Tourist Animation, Ecotourism, Geological Tourism, Cultural and Religious Tourism, Rural Tourism, Wine Tourism, Extreme Tourism, etc. The training courses include workshops, projects, practices and field studies of tourist sites and alternative tourism destinations. The programme offers an upgrading semester to holders of professional bachelor’s degree 3.9. Tourism who earn additional credits by enrolling in lecture courses (15 credits) and training courses (15 credits).

The programme provides placements and internships in regional and national administrative structures: ministries, municipalities and agencies; field practices.

Graduate Student Competencies:
Graduates will have mastered knowledge of:
• basic provisions in the regulation of tourism and tourist activity in the Republic of Bulgaria;
• protected areas of Bulgaria, categories of protected areas, management plans of the protected areas, regimes for their protection and the rules for visiting them;
• organisation and management of alternative tourism;
• types of tour guiding activity and the main principles, methods and types of tourist animation.
Graduates of the program will have mastered skills in:
• using a variety of forms for alternative tourism in order to organise, manage and expand the possibilities of the tourism business;
• assigning and accepting tour operator activities;
• carrying out consulting activities in the field of tourism during the transition from mainstream to alternative tourism;
• preparing and presenting tourist routes and programmes;
• applying advertising approaches to complete tourist products.
Graduation:
Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits.
The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.
Occupation and possible positions:
Graduates pursue careers at the Ministry of Tourism, travel agencies, private business, non-governmental organisations, implementation abroad, etc.
