Short presentation of the programme:

The doctoral programme in Labour Law and Social Security is of a practical, theoretical and research nature in the field of labour and social security law at doctoral level. It provides specialised training on various issues and concepts from the theory, methodology and practice in the field of these two legal branches, consistent with the achievements and challenges of modern practice and science in this field. The training provides access to current research in the field of labour and social security law worldwide, develops the skills for scientific understanding and analysis of existing practices and results, and supports individual achievements of PhD students’ research contributions.

International mobility:

NBU has created conditions for student mobility of PhD students in foreign universities. It participates in the Erasmus+ programme as part of Key Activity 1: Educational mobility in the field of higher education, including mobility of students, doctoral students, faculty and administrative staff in programme and partner countries. The wide scope of the doctoral programme enables the training of not only Bulgarian citizens, but also foreign PhD students interested in the world history of state and law, part of which is the history of the Bulgarian state and law.

Graduate Student Competencies:

PhD graduates will have acquired knowledge of the current state of labour and insurance law, the expected legislative and scientific developments, and in-depth professional knowledge in the specific field of their dissertations. They will have built expertise and gained experience to successfully collect and summarise scientific information, as well as to clearly define existing problems.

The aim is to achieve the following:

• to provide two-level training in the speciality Labour Law and Social Insurance in accordance with the modern achievements of the science;

• to provide a scientific reserve in the specialty the speciality Labour Law and Social Insurance for the NBU programmes and academic needs on a national scale;

• to make possible the inclusion of young specialists in research activities in the field of legal sciences, in the development of modern science and interdisciplinary research;

• to carry out international exchange of scientific research in the field of legal science;

• to participate in the creation of networks of national and joint research programmes;

• to encourage scientific contributions in prospective and insufficiently researched areas of labour law and social security law;

• to integrate educational and scientific processes by creating stable conditions for production and use of scientific knowledge;

• to stimulate the transfer of knowledge and experience;

• to provide funding for research activities;

• to apply innovative teaching methods.

Graduation:

Upon earning the required number of credits and defending a doctoral dissertation.

Occupation and possible positions:

A PhD degree awarded in Labour Law and Social Security guarantees the sustainable development of a specialist in Labour Law and Social Security who possess fundamental theoretical and practical knowledge.

The doctoral program provides an opportunity for independent practice and research, as well as participation in group projects, gaining teaching experience and mastering skills related to real-life practice.
