Theory and History of Architecture (in Bulgarian)

Short presentation of the programme:

The training in the doctoral programme is aimed at preparing highly competent and educated specialists and researchers in the field of theory and history of architecture. The Department of Architecture carries out a variety of research activities, i.e. organising and holding seminars and conferences, developing and participating in research projects and publishing research outcomes. The department research papers are published in the collections of scientific publications of the Department of Design as well as in specialised collections and editions of conferences, seminars, workshops, etc., Moodle NBU, and NBU E-Library, hosting the publications of the faculty and students.

International mobility:

The Department of Architecture at NBU has established Erasmus+ student mobility partnerships with universities in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Great Britain; University of Thrace, Komotini, Greece; Trent University, Nottingham, Great Britain; Edi Tepe University, Istanbul, Turkey; as well as companies in the Netherlands and Italy. Among the main goals of the higher education institutions’ partnerships are the academic exchange of students and lecturers and the development of common scientific and educational projects in the field of law.

Graduate Student Competencies:

PhD graduates have mastered:

• specialised knowledge in the field of theory and history of architecture;

• skills to independently formulate a research problem, find relevant scientific literature, prepare a bibliographic reference related to it, work with architectural literature and extract the necessary information;

• skills to synthesise, present different views and opinions and analyse them critically, build a hypothesis and defend it, build new hypotheses and propose relevant solutions;

• skills to write a scientific text and publish scientific articles and other academic works;

• teaching skills and knowledge of modern teaching methods and tools.

Graduation:

Upon earning the required number of credits and defending a doctoral dissertation.

Occupation and possible positions:

PhD graduates can pursue careers as:

• researchers capable of conducting independent research;

• lecturers in higher education institutions;

• experts in the field of process management in the field of architectural and urban planning, able to think creatively and affirm the role of architects in society.
