Практики:

Students carry out supervised practice at the NBU Clinical Centre for working with children with developmental disorders and in clinics, offices, schools and kindergartens. Students’ performance is assessed by a committee appointed by the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies during a practical exam taken at the end of the internship.

Graduates will have mastered:

• knowledge on the etiopathogenetic mechanisms and clinical manifestations of developmental and acquired communication disorders, generalised developmental disorders and mental disorders;

• knowledge on diagnostic methods and ability to make a differential diagnosis of communication disorders in children and adults and participate in a team in diagnosing and treating neurological and psychiatric diseases when neuropsychological assessment is needed, therapy plan and cognitive rehabilitation;

• knowledge on the emotional and behavioural characteristics accompanying communication disorders in children and adults;

• therapeutic skills and skills for communicating with clients, as well as for working in a team;

• ability to apply established prevention methods of developmental disorders in childhood;

• ability to apply methods of diagnosis, therapy/rehabilitation of developmental and acquired disorders in children, adolescents and adults with learning difficulties, generalised developmental disorders, non-verbal communication disorders and alternative forms of communication, an element of programmes and placements based on evidence;

• ability to apply methods of counselling parents and relatives of children and adolescents with developmental disorders;

• ability to work in a team when implementing therapeutic interventions with the use of assistive technologies;

• ability to work in a team in research activities aimed at modelling communicative disorders, as well as plan and conduct independent research in the field;

• ability to independently perform diagnostic and therapeutic activities with clients with communication disorders and their families.

Дипломиране:

Completion of studies takes place by defending a master’s dissertation or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits.

The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.

Професия и възможни заемани длъжности:

Graduates pursue careers as speech therapists in the therapy of people with communication disorders in specialised offices, school speech therapy offices, day care centres, clinics, social services; they carry out research activities in scientific units, consultations as experts in services and institutions assessing and supporting people with communication disorders.
