Hispanic Studies (with English as a Second Language) (in Spanish, English and Bulgarian)
Short presentation of the programme:
The programme provides extensive knowledge in the field of language, literature, theory and practice of translation, methodology of teaching Spanish, and the history and culture of Spain and Hispanic America. The language training takes place over four years and combines theoretical and applied training. During their studies, the students receive extensive training in two foreign languages, i.e. in Spanish (C2 level), the first foreign language, and in English (B2 level), the second foreign language. The training offers both foundational courses in the field of philology and interdisciplinary courses related to the professional field of philology. The students acquire profound knowledge of the Spanish language, literature, history and culture of the Hispanic world, the theory and practice of translation and language teaching. In the third and fourth years, the programme offers specialisations in Translation and Teaching Spanish, as well as the opportunity to enrol in a minor programme which is free of charge upon meeting certain requirements.

Practical training courses:
Practical training includes internships in translation agencies, television stations, travel agencies, schools and foreign language schools.
International mobility:
The programme provides an opportunity for international student mobility at universities in Germany, Italy, Spain, France and Russia.
Graduate Student Competencies:
They will have mastered:
• knowledge in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics, literature, culture and history of Spanish-speaking countries, the theory and practice of translation, the methodology of teaching Spanish;
• skills in translating and interpreting from and into Spanish; teaching Spanish in all grades of Bulgarian schools;
• listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written and oral English language skills at level B2 according to the Common Language Framework of the Council of Europe.
Graduation:
Upon earning the required number of credits and passing state exams.
State exams: total number of credits: 10 ECTS
• Written state exam in Spanish: 3 ECTS (for both specialisations);
• Oral state exam in Spanish: 3 ECTS (for both specialisations);
• Specialisation: Translation: state exam in written translation (Spanish language): 2 ECTS; state exam in interpreting (Spanish language): 2 ECTS;
• Specialisation: Spanish language teacher: state qualification exam in Spanish language teaching: 4 ECTS
Occupation and possible positions:
Graduates pursue careers as translators, teachers of the Spanish language, literature, history and culture of Spain and Hispano-America in all grades of Bulgarian schools; in foreign language schools, state administration, international organisations and institutions, Bulgarian and foreign companies, travel agencies; in the field of tour guiding and hospitality, publishing and book distribution, print and electronic media, editing and proofreading, etc.
