Visual Arts (in Bulgarian)
Short presentation of the programme:
In the first two years of the programme, the focus is on general education courses and two-semester courses in the main areas of study. The theoretical part of the curriculum focuses on History, Aesthetics and Visual Arts Theory. Topics related to various appeals of composition and expression in the visual arts are examined. In the first two years, the students can take practical courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, illustration, ceramics and porcelain, art glass, poster and advertising design, scenic design, and basic computer courses, etc. In the third and fourth years, there are six modules that lead to a specific professional qualification. They include lecture and training courses.

Practical training courses:
Practical training includes individual projects, participation in exhibitions and competitions, work in specialised rooms and studios in graphics and illustration, ceramics and porcelain, glass, sculpture, multimedia and digital technologies in the Radio and Television Centre of NBU and the University Theatre.
Practical training in some of the modules offers placements and internships in advertising agencies, enterprises, plants and factories, institutions in Bulgaria and abroad.
International mobility:
The programme provides an opportunity for international student mobility at universities in France, Poland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Spain, and the USA.
Graduate Student Competencies:
Stage Design Module Graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills in:
• artistic designing of spaces and objects through visual means and computer technologies;
• constructing artistic lighting and multimedia for a performance;
• architectural photography and design, intervention in an architectural environment;
• dynamics of building space, costume and objects in traditional and new visual environments;
• designing costumes in a historical and contemporary context.
Contemporary painting and mural painting module graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills to:
• design their own paintings in different genres: portrait, landscape, thematic, figurative composition, still life;
• develop various painting, graphic and mural techniques and technologies and the applications of the pictorial image;
• use modern multimedia systems in painting.
Graphics and Illustration module graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills to:
• analyse and study visual content;
• design and illustrate printed works;
• create works using classic and modern graphic techniques;
• print artwork by hand;
• illustrate children's books, classic literature books, periodicals;
• successfully present creative projects.
Poster and Advertising Design module graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills to:
• succeed in the field of history and theory of graphic and advertising design;
• use modern computer, digital and multimedia technologies as well as classic and modern methods for artistic design;
• use basic principles of Slavic fonts, calligraphic techniques, ways and methods of font application in advertising graphics;
• create complete calligraphic compositions;
• handle various materials applicable to calligraphy;
• apply their knowledge in the field of graphic design.
Ceramics and Porcelain. Digital Forms module graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills to apply in:
• ceramic plastic art through digital and classical methods in creating modern forms for decorative-plastic ceramics, sculpture, architecture, installations, performance objects, collages, interior and exterior plastic developments, as well as 3D plastic compositions;
• contemporary and modern art;
• traditional turning techniques;
• presenting artistic ceramics in a modern way, combiningclassic practices with computer and digital technologies (3D printer);
Glass in Art and Design module graduates will have mastered knowledge and skills to:
• apply the principle of the symbiosis between glass art with architecture and design and vice versa;
• excel in practical and theoretical training;
• work in the field of design, interior architecture, fine and applied arts, advertising and the glass industry
Graduation:
Completion of studies in the bachelor's programme takes place by defending a bachelor's thesis or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits. In addition to the professional qualification provided, students can also obtain additional specialisation by enrolling in a minor programme.
The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.
Occupation and possible positions:
Graduates pursue careers as painters; advertising designers; designers, graphic artists, illustrators, stage designers, art editors, artists specialising in ceramics, porcelain and art glass.
