History and Archaeology (in Bulgarian)
Short presentation of the programme:
In the first two years of the programme, the focus is on general education courses, two-semester courses in the main areas of study, such as Introduction to Archaeology, Mythology and Religion, Historical Knowledge, History of Bulgaria, Ancient Civilizations, Anthropology, State and Public Administration, Political Science and general education courses in the humanities, ancient and modern history. In the third and fourth years, there are two modules comprised of lecture and training courses which lead to a professional qualification.

Practical training courses:
Practical training in the Archaeology of Eurasia Module includes archaeological excavations, field visits, drilling surveys, archaeological collection processing, practices in archaeological and historical museums, as well as work in the NBU Laboratory of Archaeometry and Experimental Archaeology. Practical training in the History of Bulgaria, the Balkans and the World Module includes thematic seminars, travelling seminars, practices in archives and internships.
International mobility:
The programme provides an opportunity for an international student mobility at universities in Great Britain, Belgium, Poland, Turkey, Romania, Hungary.
Graduate Student Competencies:
• knowledge about historical processes and development of societies, the main archaeological sources from the Old Stone Age to the New Age and Modernity;
• skills to research and analyse historical sources and archival documents, interpret cultural and historical heritage monuments, conduct field archaeological research, analyse and publish results of field work and documentary research.
Graduation:
Completion of studies in the bachelor's programme takes place by defending a bachelor's thesis or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits. In addition to the professional qualification provided, students can also obtain additional specialisation by enrolling in a minor programme.
The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Educational and Qualification Degree Completion.
Occupation and possible positions:
• graduates of the Archaeology of Eurasia Module pursue careers as archaeologists, museum curators, heads of museum branches, fund custodians;
• graduates of the History of Bulgaria, the Balkans and the World Module pursue careers as historians, specialists in the field of historical science in state and municipal administration, media and publications.
