English Studies (English Language, Culture and Literature) (in English and Bulgarian)
Short presentation of the programme:
In the first two years, the training in the programme focuses on general education courses, two-semester courses in the main areas of study, such as The Science of Language, The Science of Literature, Anthropology, Sociology, Mythology and Religion, and practical courses, such as Practical Grammar, Academic Skills, Communication Skills, etc. In the third and fourth years, the instruction consists of specialised and training courses, such as individual assignments, creative performances, projects using language technologies, etc. In the fourth year, the programme offers two specialisations, Teacher and Translator, leading to a professional qualification. The students in the programme are required to study a second foreign language.

Practical training courses:
Practical training includes internships in translation agencies, television stations, travel agencies, schools and foreign language schools.
International mobility:
The programme provides an opportunity for international student mobility at universities in in Germany, Belgium and France.
Graduate Student Competencies:
• knowledge in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics, literature, culture and history of English-speaking countries, theory and practice of translation, methodology of teaching English language;
• skills in translating and interpreting from and into English; teaching English; analysing modern linguistic phenomena.

- State exam in English (written and oral) - 6 ECTS (3 ECTS + 3 ECTS)
- State qualification exam in teaching English – 4 ECTS

Graduates pursue careers as philologists, translators with English language; philologists, English teachers; translators, consultants, editors in print and electronic media; in international organisations and foreign companies; travel agencies; book publishing and distribution.
