Cinema and Television (in Bulgarian)

Short presentation of the programme:

In the first two years, the instruction in the programme focuses on general education courses, two-semester courses in the main areas of study, such as Aesthetics and Art Theory, General History of Fine Arts, Composition in Visual Arts, Culture and Semiotics, Human Culture, Mythology and Religion, The Art of Theatre, Bulgarian language: reading and writing; Earth and Environmental Sciences, as well as training courses, such as Image Basic Components, Film and Television Cinematographic Expressive Means, Digital Editing Practical Aspects, Principles and Technology of Physical Appearance in Cinema and Television, Filmmaking Specifics, Film Analysis, Applied Aspects of Film and Television Directing, Film Dramaturgy, Cinematography Techniques for Creating an Artistic Image, as well as training seminars, such as Mastering Initial Cinematography Techniques, Cinematography Techniques When Filming in Nature, Feature Film Technology, Working in a Television Studio Complex. In the third and fourth years, the instruction comprises specialised lecture and training courses. In the fourth year, the programme offers three specialisations that lead to a professional qualification.

Practical training courses:

Practical training includes work at the NBU Film Centre, NBU Film Club, audio and video production studios; participation in artistic projects, placements and internships.

International mobility:

The programme provides an opportunity for international student mobility at universities in Italy, France, Finland, Turkey, Greece, Spain and the Netherlands.

Graduate Student Competencies:

• knowledge in the field of visual arts and the stages of the creative process in cinema and television;

• skills to use modern digital technologies in making cinema and television production, create audiovisual production and build criteria for its evaluation.

Graduation:

Completion of studies in the bachelor's programme takes place by defending a bachelor's thesis or passing a state exam upon earning the required number of credits. In addition to the professional qualification provided, students can also obtain additional specialisation by enrolling in a minor programme.

The graduation process complies with the NBU Standard for Bachelor's or Master's Degree Completion.

Occupation and possible positions:

Graduates pursue careers as cinema and television directors, cinema and television directors of photography, cinema and television editors, specialists in cinema and television directing, cinema and television photography, cinema and television editing, and can work in television, visual effects studios, as freelance specialists, in teams of independent producers.
