Анотация:
The course introduces the trainees to the clinical symptoms of different types of sensory impairments; the reasons for the appearance of hearing or visual loss and the peculiarities in the development and communication in the respective type of pathology; the psychological and social constraints imposed by the presence of sensory impairment. Through case studies, basic approaches and programs for emotional support and social inclusion of children and adults with sensory disabilities and their families are presented. Effective models for teamwork between medical, educational and support professionals are offered.

Students who complete this course:
1) know:
• Basic concepts in the field of education and social work with children and students with sensory impairments
• Models of categorization and classification of types of violations.
• Peculiarities of individual development in case of sensory impairment for assessment of individual potential and opportunities for their social inclusion.
• The regulations and policies for inclusion and work with children and students with sensory impairments.
• The main problems of the educational and social realization of students with sensory disorders and the approaches for dealing with them
• The role of parents as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Main dynamics of relations in the families of persons with sensory disabilities;
• Modern models of inter- and multidisciplinary support.
2) are able:
• To apply the acquired theoretical knowledge in real practical tasks
• To symptomatically recognize the different categories of people with sensory disabilities
• To recognize and support the specific socio-emotional needs that arise in the various stages of the therapeutic process and correctional and educational activities
• To apply approaches and programs for work individually and in a group for social inclusion of children and adults with sensory disorders in a medical, educational or other supportive environment.
• To provide social support alone or as part of a multidisciplinary team of specialists
• To introduce in their teams a clear structure, profile of the roles of individual specialists and a culture of relationships in the interdisciplinary team.
