Short presentation of the programme:

In the first two years, the programme focuses on general education courses, two-semester courses in the main areas of study, such as The Science of Language, The Science of Literature, Historical Knowledge, Classical Literature and Ancient Theatre, Introduction to Christianity, as well as practical courses from the programme, such as Ancient Greek, Latin, Political History of Ancient Greece, Archaeology and Cultural Geography of the Ancient Mediterranean, Modern Greek, Translation and Text Analysis, Translation Strategies, etc. In the third and fourth years, the course of study includes lecture and training courses.

Major and professional qualification:

Major: Greek language, culture and literature
Qualification: philologist, Greek scholar

Practical training courses:

Practical training includes annual travelling seminars, practice in publishing houses, seminars and practice in cooperation with journalists and translators from and into the Greek language, internships in translation agencies, travel agencies, schools and foreign language schools.

International mobility:

The programme provides an opportunity for international student mobility at universities in Cyprus (University of Nicosia) and Greece (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki).

Graduate Student Competencies:

• knowledge in the field of history, culture, religion, literature and art of classical antiquity and modern Greece;

• expert skills in the field of ancient cultural-historical heritage and its presentation at home and abroad;

• knowledge in the field of theoretical and applied linguistics, literature, culture and history of Greece, theory and practice of translation;

• skills in Modern Greek understanding different lexical styles, using political, administrative, scientific, artistic and other types of vocabulary, translating and interpreting in Greek; analysing contemporary linguistic and cultural phenomena.

Occupation and possible positions:

Graduates pursue careers as specialists in ancient and modern Greek history, culture and literature; experts in the field of classical languages and modern Greek (translators, editors); experts in the field of ancient culture and literature (museum workers, tour guides, etc.); journalists, reporters; etc.
