ELCB306 Английска фонетика и фонология

Анотация:

The course introduces basic knowledge about the sound system of the English language. Necessarily, it presents major theoretical concepts from the fields of Phonetics and Phonology, inasmuch as they inform a better understanding of the sounds and their descriptions. The course builds on basic knowledge of General Linguistics developed with the courses during the first year of study and expands into the specific domain of phonological essentials. It improves the learners’ pronunciation and recognition skills through knowledge of sound descriptions and classification. As a branch of Linguistics, the discipline foreshadows knowledge about Lexicology, Semantics, Morphology, Syntax and Stylistics. Students are expected to engage with analytical procedures, to distinguish theoretical premises and refer to concepts relevant for practical purposes.
