MABM233 Етническа история на Америка


The course is dedicated to the main characteristics of ethnic history of America. The unique American experience in integrating numerous ethnic communities into a single nation is studied theoretically and empirically. All main ethnic groups inhabiting USA are presented in three ways. The history of their arrival to the American coast and their integration in US is traced. Some demographic characteristic features are presented. Finally, their culture and its’ influence over mainstream American culture is presented. In such a way Native Americans, European Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans and many other ethnic groups are studied. Each student is asked to make a presentation about an ethnic group according to his or her personal interest and the literature list is being arranged accordingly each semester.

• Aims of course:

- to provide knowledge about different ethnic groups in the US – their history and culture

- to form competences of academic writing, reading and presenting an essay based on literature
