basic methods for and statistical approaches to psychological testing and assessment

best practices for administering and analyzing psychological tests and assessments

BE ABLE TO:

to use standardized psychological tests

to design and pilot new tests for psychological constructs

1. Introduction to Psychological Testing and Assessment. Brief history of the field.
2. Constructing a new test. Example of the EPAQ. GROUP Project: Forming groups. Defining construct.
3. Constructing a new test: Steps and considerations. Operationalization of the test. GROUP Project: Operationalization of the test/consctruct. Item design.
4. Factor Analysis. GROUP Project: Continue w/ item design.
5. Ethical Issues in psychological testing. Vulnerable populations. Informed consent. Debriefing GROUP Project: Prepare informed consent and debriefing materials.
6. Classical Test Theory GROUP Project: Apply classical test theory to your test.
7. Item-Response Theory GROUP Project: Plan recruitment. Upload your test to a data collection platform.
8. Reliability: Internal Consistenct, Test-Retest, Inter-Rater, Parallel Forms GROUP Project: Plan how to test the reliability of your test.
9. Validity: Content, Criterion, and Construct GROUP Project: Plan how to test the validity of your test.
