NETB317 Applications for Distributed Databases
Анотация:
The course aims at giving students an knowledge of recent technologies for distributed database management. It combines already established DBM principles with current popular ideas like Service Oriented Architectures (SOA).
The solutions of world-leading in this field companies, like Oracle, Microsoft and IBM, are presented and studied.
In addition, some very popular and well-known commercial software tools are considered, e.g., MySQL, Oracle, MS Access etc. Their main features are discussed and then compared. The list of tools is updated every year, right before the beginning of the lessons, in order to provide students with the most actual information about the products in the market.

Students successfully finished this course will have a broad overview of the contemporary state-of-the-art research and technological advancements in the field of distributed data processing.
They will be able to analyze possible implementations of DDB technology and to select appropriate tools and techniques for solving specific problems.
The will acquire systematic knowledge and skills for designing distributed databases and distributed data processing applications.
Предварителни изисквания:
Basic knowledge of Internet, Internet protocols and languages (e.g. HTTP, HTML, XML, CGI).
Working skills in relational databases (SQL).
Working skills in programming (e.g. Java, C++, .NET, Visual Basic) and some preliminary experience in Web development.
