Компетенции:

After completing successfully this course the students will:

1) know:

- the specific features of the process of communication at the different cultures and the way it goes on

- the cultural and ethnic stereotypes during the process of communication, the verbal and non-verbal norms

- the different adaptation and integration models in the contemporary society

2) be able to:

- to identify the challenges arising from the cultural diversity and to apply strategies for coping with them

- to evaluate the role of the cultural context at the process of communication

- to develop skills and attitudes in the sphere of intercultural competence

1. Cross-cultural dialogue – the Science of how to communicate with representatives of different cultures.
2. Identity and Communication – what makes us similar and what makes us different from each other.
3. The Ethnic Stereotypes – who is “the most important” in the process of communication at the different cultures.
4. Culture and Communication – how to provoke a conflict and how to solve it.
5. What do we understand while talking – how to be polite if we want or we need to.
6. What do we see while communicating – reading the body language. Great mistakes of communication and how to avoid them.
7. Cross-cultural dialogue in the contemporary world.
8. Problems of the cross-cultural dialogue in the contemporary world.
9. Models of cross-cultural dialogue. The Model of Hofstede Individualistic and collectivistic types of cultures, hierarchy, power distance.
10. Cultural shoc. The Model of Bennett. Acceptance, adaptation, integration. Measuring the intercultural sensitivity.
11. From problems to solutions in the Intercultural dialogue. Strategies and good practices.
12. Cross-cultural dialogue as a way of mediation. Communication process in traditional context – political and business negotiations.
13. Cross-cultural dialogue in a non-traditional context – war and diplomacy.
14. Hostage negotiations.
15. Simulations of Intercultural negotiations.
