Анотация:
The question what is the distinguishing feature of the human being is one of the most importan questions in philosophy. The philosophical discipline which puts this question in the center of its attention is called traditionally Philosophical Anthropology. The main objective of the course is to present the most significant and influential philosophical authors and theories in thinking about the human nature. Besides the theories about human nature the students are expected to enrich and to extend their philosophical knowledge about subjects like nature, culture, action, labor, language, consciousness, life etc.

Successful graduates of the course students:
1) know:
• The most significant and influential philosophical authors and theories in thinking about human nature.
• Structure and content of the most important works in Philosophical Anthropology.
• The main problems of philosophical anthropology.
2) can:
• Use correctly the major categories of Philosophical Anthropology.
• Understand and evaluate independently arguments in context of Philosophical Anthropology.

- Aristotle’s concept of nature. Physics and metaphysics. Teleology.
- Christianity. Christian conception of human nature.
- Traditional metaphysical definitions of human nature. Consciousness, reason, language, free will, labor as distinguishing feature of the human beings.
- The decline of the metaphysical picture of human nature in XVIII-XIX century. The modern science.
- Ludwig Feuerbach, Karl Marx and Friedrich Nietzsche on human nature. 8. Written assignment.
