PIDM509 Workshop: Policy of Deinstitutionalisation


The workshop is going to present to students up-to-date policies and activities on deinstitutionalization.

Students will be familiarized with the history of the emergence and meaning of institutional care and the processes that sparked the deinstitutionalization efforts. Through specific cases, scientific articles and theoretical explanations, students study the processes of change related to deinstitutionalization at the level of policies and specific practices

Successful graduates of the course will:

1) know:

• crucial moment from the history and modern deinstitutionalisation policies and processes in Bulgaria and other countries

• about the scientifically sound explanations and approaches to deinstitutionalisation

• about criticism of certain approaches to deinstitutionalisation

(2) be able to:

• carry out activities related to deinstitutionalisation at the level of policies and specific care

• follow ethical norms and professional practices in working with institutionalized children and their families

• critically analyse practices and policies in the field of childcare deinstitutionalisation

• In the field of social legislation, child development

• Knowledge of public policies in the areas of child protection, health, education and anti-social behaviour of minors.
