Анотация:
COURSE ANNOTATION AND AIMS:
• The course is designed for undergraduate psychology students and introduces them to the basic concepts and methods of anthropology; it also traces the relations of anthropology to other disciplines with special attention to psychology and cognitive science.
• The course is aimed at building competence in the comparative study of cultures and societies.
• The lectures tackle issues such as fieldwork, culture, society, adaptation, enculturation, kinship, custom, tradition, ritual, language, religion, politics, exchange and others.
• The major subfields of anthropology are delineated, such as political anthropology, economic anthropology, symbolic anthropology, applied anthropology, ethno-medicine, visual anthropology, etc.

SKILLS
After completing successfully this course the students will:
1) know:
• Basic anthropological concepts, the relations of anthropology with other disciplines, including psychology
• Major theories and methods in the study of communities and cultures.
• Major topics in anthropology: culture, environment and adaptation; society, enculturation and socialization; gender, age, kinship; ethnicity and nationalism; custom, tradition, ritual; language, religion.
2) are capable of:
• Using fluently the acquired terminology
• Reading critically specialized anthropological literature
• Applying anthropological methods in psychology
