Анотация:
The aim of the course is to introduce students into the main debates which professional psychologists have been involved in since the birth of modern psychology. A special attention will be paid to the historical, social, and methodological contexts of the debates over the IQ measuring, the notion of mental disorder, the scientific status of psychology, the potential conflict between professional ethics and some civil obligations etc.

On completion of the course the students will have knowledge about the main controversies which divide contemporary psychologists and which are source of tension between the society of professional psychologists and people outside academia. The students will be able to take an informed stance on these controversies and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the rival positions.
