At the end of the course students will be familiar with the idea of null hypothesis significance testing, will be able to understand and critically evaluate the statistical methods in psychological empirical research, as well as choose an appropriate analysis for their own study.
Предварителни изисквания:
Student must have taken PSYE107 or have a good understanding of descriptive statistics and the basics of probability theory.

1. The logic of null hypothesis testing (NHST). Sampling distributions. Standard error. The relation between a sample and the population it is drawn from. The central limit theorem.
2. Null and alternative hypothesis, standard error, p-value, statistical significance. significance criterion.
3. Type I and type II error. Statistical power.
4. Confidence intervals.
5. The relationships between the p-value, significance criterion, statistical power, confidence intervals, probability of type I and type II error.
6. The Student t-distribution. One sample t-test.
7. Pairwise and independent samples t-tests.
8. The multiple comparisons problem. Cherry-picking. Introduction to analysis of variance (ANOVA)
9. One-way ANOVA. The F value and the F distribution.
10. Multi factor ANOVA. Interaction effects.
11. Correlation and linear regression.
12. Non-parametric tests. Chi square, median test. Bootstrapping.
13. Measures of effect size. Post hoc comparisons. Misusing NHST.
14. Reporting statistical analyses.
15. Review of material so far. The replication crisis. Discussion.
16. Midterm test
