Rumen has a MD degree at Medical University, Sofia, his medical speciality is Psychiatry. Rumen has also a Psychotherapy education in Psychodrama granted by the Psychodrama Institute, Uberlingen, Germany directed by Grete Leutz, and a PhD degree - from the University of the West of England for the studies from 2002 till 2010 at the Center for Psych-social studies, with a thesis successfully defended in December 2010. Rumen has been lecturing at the NBU from 1993 on. He is a member of the Organization for Psychoanalytical Understanding of Society (OPUS) from 2004 on; of the International Society of Third Sector Research (ISTR) from 2005 on and of the International Association for Group Psychotherapy (IAGP) from 2011 on.

Rumen has written a monography - Petrov, R. 2011 Collaboration and Vulnerability. A Psycho-social study of the emerging Concept of Community Development. A Bulgarian Case, Lambert, Germany where he tries to explain whet he had learned about group relations community development, authority and the post-totalitarian condition in Bulgaria.

His latest book is from 2018. Its title is "Confused in Pain. Social Trauma and Social Responsibility". It is published by the Paradox publishing house, Sofia.
