Анотация:

COURSE ANNOTATION AND AIMS:

The course aims at providing knowledge about the chronology of development of the Bulgarian media in the democratic context. While focusing on the importance of journalistic solidarity and ethics in a freedom of speech environment, the critical attention of the students will be directed at the problems of contemporary journalism.

A special attention will be directed at the new opportunities for the freedom of speech in Bulgaria and the world, provided by the Internet as a new media.

After completing successfully this course the students will:

1) know:

- the tendencies around the cvreation and the development of the media in Bulgaria

2) be able to:

- critically analyse comment the topics and the problems with regards the media and media presentation

3) job opportunities, according to the National Register of Jobs and Positions in the Republic of Bulgaria:

- Experts in social and related sciences and humanities

- Journalists and editors

- Marketing and public relations

Course Syllabus

1. Gorbachev's Glasnost and Perstroika - the birth marks of the freedom of speech in Bulgaria

2. The paradocs of the in initial media freedom. ("Rabotnichesko delo" and the first coverage on the concentration camps in People's Republic Bulgaria).

3. "The honest private owners" and the imposition of the language "everyone is a villain".

4. The short flourish of the opposition media as an anticommunist.

5. The Voice of America in Bulgarian language and across Bulgarian territory - the beginning of the radio revolution. The "EX" "enemy radio stations" and their role as a corrective in the decade of the Bulgarian transition to democracy.

6. The riots: Live - from the Romanian revolution in 1989 to the occupation of the Bulgarian Parliament on the 10th of January 1997.

7. The birth and development of the "On air" pluralism - are their negatives in that positive development.

8. Is the circulation of the printed press a criteria for the success and influence of the media?
