POLS340 Политически режими в Централна и Източна Европа

Анотация:

The course considers the foundations, the establishment and the typology of the political regimes in the countries of Central Eastern Europe (which includes the former communist countries, now members or candidate-members of the European union). The course gives essential knowledge on the geopolitical characteristic of the region, the historical roots of the present political regimes, the legacy of the communist period and the main elements of the post-communist transition. Special emphasis will be given on the present party system, the political cleavages and the main socio-political conflicts. The impact of the European union during the post-communist transition on the national politics in the region will be also discussed. Three seminars on different cases are also incuded.

After having completed the cours students will aquire a systematic knowledge about the principal geopolitical features of the CEE countries and the main elements and the partucularities of the political regimes in CEE. Students will be also able to make systematic analysis of one particular political regime.

5. Crisis and fall of the regimes: the role of the soviet perestroika.

6. The postcommunist transition: theoretical approaches, explanatory limits of the path dependency.

7. The present political regimes: genesis, setup, structure, typology.

8. The party systems in Central Eastern Europe: the principal party families.

9. The role of the accession to the European union for the functioning of the political regimes in the region.

10. The impact of EU on domestic politics.
